Who This Policy Applies To
FUTA Social is a campus social platform built exclusively for students and verified members of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Nigeria. The platform is not directed at children under the age of 18.
This policy governs all users, content creators, traders, service providers, and accommodation agents who use FUTA Social, regardless of their role on the platform.
Prohibited Content and Behaviour
The following are strictly prohibited on FUTA Social and will result in immediate account termination and referral to law enforcement:
- Any image, video, text, or other content that sexually exploits or abuses a minor
- Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) in any format
- Grooming behaviour — building a relationship with a minor to gain their trust for the purpose of sexual exploitation
- Soliciting, distributing, or sharing sexual content involving minors
- Using the platform to arrange or facilitate sexual contact with a minor
- Any content that normalises, glorifies, or encourages the sexual exploitation of children
How We Enforce This Policy
FUTA Social uses a combination of user reporting, admin review, and proactive moderation to detect and remove CSAE content:
- All reported content is reviewed by our admin team within 24 hours
- Content identified as CSAE is removed immediately upon detection
- Accounts responsible for CSAE content are permanently banned without appeal
- Where legally required, we preserve evidence and report the matter to the Nigeria Police Force, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and international bodies such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) where applicable
- We cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations relating to CSAE
How to Report CSAE Content
If you encounter content or behaviour that you believe violates this policy, please report it immediately using any of the following methods:
- In-app reporting: Tap the three-dot menu (···) on any post, comment, message, or profile and select "Report". Select the most relevant reason and submit. Our admin team will review it promptly.
- Email: Send a detailed report to support@futa-social.com with as much information as possible, including screenshots where applicable.
- Direct contact: For urgent matters involving a child in immediate danger, contact the Nigeria Police Force emergency line (112) or NAPTIP (0800-NAPTIP-0) directly in addition to reporting to us.
All reports are treated confidentially. The identity of the person making a report is never disclosed to the reported user.
Platform Safeguards
FUTA Social maintains the following safeguards to reduce the risk of CSAE on the platform:
- Account registration requires a valid FUTA student email or verified identity document, making anonymous account creation difficult
- Student accounts are verified against matriculation numbers to confirm university enrolment
- External traders and service providers submit a government-issued ID and are manually reviewed before gaining platform access
- User reporting tools are accessible on every post, comment, profile, and message thread
- Reported accounts are restricted from posting or messaging while under admin review
- Administrators have the authority to immediately suspend any account pending investigation
Legal Compliance
FUTA Social complies with applicable Nigerian law and international standards related to child protection, including:
- Child Rights Act 2003 (Nigeria)
- Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 (Nigeria)
- Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA)
- NAPTIP Act — National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters Act
We will disclose user data to law enforcement without prior notice when required by a valid legal order in connection with a CSAE investigation.
Updates to This Policy
We review and update this policy regularly to ensure it reflects current best practices and legal requirements. Significant changes will be communicated to users via an in-app notification. Continued use of FUTA Social after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
